In this webinar, we demonstrate the design and simulation of a 3-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive with PSIM. We cover PMSMs with Interior magnets (IPM) as well as surface magnets (SPM/BLDC).
PSIM features a generous machine model library for PMSMs including:
The main control technique we use in the webinar is Field Oriented Control (FOC) and our new and improved Motor Control Design Suite enables us to quickly generate stable digital PI controllers for Id & Iq. But not only that, speed and torque controllers are also part of the presentation.
Finally, we introduce and discuss important control algorithms for maximizing the torque speed operating envelope:
Often our users ask us what realistic machine parameters would be if they were looking for a motor with basic torque, speed requirements. To help answer this sort of question we now support the import of machine model parameters from the FEA tools JMAG and the free online tool JMAG express online.
These motor parameters can quickly be imported into our design suite producing close-loop motor drive simulations.
We also introduce our improved capabilities for the analysis of the DC bus, including the introduction of non-ideal switches, common-mode capacitances, long cable models, and parasitic bus inductance for EMI pre-compliance simulation.
The webinar is co-hosted by Albert Dunford and Mark Qin, who is new to the Powersim team and has many years of industrial motor drive design experience.
